A QUARTERLY CATHOLIC JOURNAL OF

Art, Culture, & Letters

FOR SOUTH LOUISIANA

Joie de Vivre is a great publication & I remain grateful to all those who share in making this publication available to us. It portrays Catholic art and culture in South Louisiana and helps us to grow in gratitude for these gifts. I always look forward to reading Joie de Vivre & feel renewed by the articles and artwork. What a gift to us as the people of God!”

— Most Rev. Gregory Aymond, Archbishop-Emeritus of New Orleans

“The work of the St. Louis IX Art Society and its publication, Joie de Vivre, is of vital importance to anyone interested in promoting the arts in Louisiana. Louisiana, throughout its history, has contributed invaluably to all forms of art. This Society and its outreach will hopefully encourage the interest and participation of many in that history, to give praise to our Heavenly Father and lift the human spirit to Him.”

— Most Rev. Glen Provost, Bishop of Lake Charles

It’s Easy to Tear Something Down.
It’s Much Harder to Build Something Up.
So Let’s Get to Work.

Unlike most of the United States of America, South Louisiana has historically been a culturally Catholic people and land, but we are quickly losing our distinctive identity and way of life. We, however, refuse to go gently into that good night, so we started Joie de Vivre. We seek to reverse this seemingly inevitable trend by providing a space for South Louisiana Catholics to immerse themselves in their history and artistic tradition, their cultural heritage, and, of course, their Catholic faith.
