We pray, “Thy Kingdom come,”
and come it does,
salty sea creeping
up the bereft banks
of our Mississippi.

“Thy Kingdom come,”
and somewhere
our earth quakes;
a gorgèd stream
o’erflows its banks;
fires rage through groves
and human hearts alike,
leaving fertile ground
a dusty waste and
a black smoke wake
to choke our breath and sight.

Must your Kingdom
crack us as it comes?

Well… 
“Thy Kingdom come”
all the same and more—
we are parched
for lack of reign.
